Code Name: Dodger Dodger was facinated by technology at an early age, but was left somewhat frustrated by his lack of resources in rural Indiana. His love of all things technical translated into a devotion to motor vehicles and construction equipment. After graduating high school, Dodger took the first chance to expand his horizons and in spite of his parents' wish for him to attend Notre Dame on a football scholarship, he left the state to attend a technical college. This left him somewhat at odds with his father, but once his parents saw just how infatuated he was with mechanics and large scale instruments, they quickly learned to accept his new habit. However, Dodger found himself somewhat stifled by even the resources his new environment offered him. Then he met the college Army Recruiter and his life changed forever. In the military, Dodger was immediately enthralled with the mechanized division and after breezing through most of the early stages, he was quickly put into a role as a Tank Commander. Even this didn't satisfy him completely, and his drive and determination brought him to BattleForce: 2000, a beta test organization for testing and design of state of the art equipment. He immediately fell in love with the atmosphere and was even happier when he became affiliated with the G.I. Joe Team. He spent many an eventful year working with the most highly trained special missions force on the planet, and he had finally found his calling. But a night in the small Middle Eastern country of Benzheen would change that forever. Serving as Squad Leader for BattleForce: 2000 that night, his team was patrolling oil refinaries, when the very structures they were guarding came under mortar attack. Direct strikes amongst the refineries proved lethal and Dodger's entire team was wiped out. Out of seven team members, he was the only one left alive. This took an immediate toll on Dodger, who felt ultimately responsible for what had happened. He drove himself full into his job, training harder than he ever had before. Even with the dissolution of BattleForce: 2000, he worked hard refining and perfecting the futuristic battle armor that he now wore. But he couldn't take it forever, and soon the emotional impact really took its toll. He became spiteful of superior officers and reluctant to follow orders. He refused to take leadership roles and became a loner, preferring to work on his own, which is something that was looked down upon fiercely. Everything eventually came to a head, and General Hawk asked him to take an honorable discharge. He reluctantly agreed, but could not get the military out of his blood. Dodger went freelance, offering up his services to many government installations, though he still held a high standard of the jobs he would take. Several years of successful freelance work gave him a reputation as an honorable and skilled worker, and Hawk was sure to keep tabs on him. After Hawk was injured during the COBRA strike on the Pentagon (as seen in Retaliation), he decided to re-implement the Renegade program. Dodger was one of the first men he spoke with, and he quickly agreed to go through the indoctrination program. His parents had passed away, and he had no family to call his own...the Renegades seemed the perfect fit. Dodger now serves as a weapons expert and heavy weapons trooper for the non-existant Renegades team, and he finally feels as if he has a little bit of closure to the events in Benzheen all those years ago. |
